Dear Family & Friends;
Last month, during my semi-annual basement-cleaning, I came
across our college and wedding albums - relegated to the basement
years ago to make room for all the kid albums. It doesn't seem
possible that it has been twenty years since we drove off from
our wedding party, Suzanne in a leather mini-skirt and me in a
burgundy suit and navy blue shirt. It also doesn't seem possible
that for ten years we didn't have any kids to help us organize
our lives. Why couldn't we have saved some of that free time?
Stephen, Nicole and Christie will be 9, 6 and 4 this month.
Stephen is in third grade. His activities this year have included
soccer, basketball (six foot baskets, unlimited traveling and
games that started two hours late), baseball (this year they all
knew which direction to run) and a million hours of video games.
He also sang in the choir, but has informed us that he is giving
up that activity because the robes are too hot and he needs some
free time.
Nicole is in Kindergarten and rides the bus every morning with
her big brother. She really likes school and has surprised us
with her studiousness she comes home and practices drawing
letters and numbers. She has continued with kindermusik and
gymnastics and started ice skating this fall. I offered to sign
her up for soccer, but she gave me a look like I was from another
planet.
Christie goes to pre-school four days a week. All the tricks
that we developed in negotiating Stephen and Nicole through the
pre-school years have proven useless with Christie. She is a
happy-go-lucky child who is oblivious to authority. Her teachers
have noted that "Christie seems to have her own agenda". She's
even managed to get a timeout in Sunday School.
Antoinette our housekeeper/babysitter has been with us for nearly
eight years. Christie told Antoinette that "you are sort of like
Cinderella cause you're always sweeping up, but you don't get to
go to the Ball." Antoinette's contribution to our family is
immeasurable and we know that someday her wish will come true.
Suzanne left her law firm after 16 years and joined Amoco
Corporation last Mayas a corporate attorney. So far she has
travelled to London and Buenos Aires, but has promised us that
she will avoid the assignments to Siberia or the Middle East.
I finally reaped a major benefit from working in Phoenix; this
spring I attended the sixth and final game of the NBA finals.
Despite the angry comments of my host and the other twenty
thousand Suns fans in attendance, it was my cheering down
the stretch that inspired the Bulls to victory.
We hope you all have a safe and joyful Holiday season.
